Visiting Artists: Ander Mikalson and Ryan Mrozowski

Lighthouse Works is pleased to welcome Ander Mikalson and Ryan Mrozowski to Fishers Island for the weekend of June 9, 2018 as part of our Visiting Artist Program.

In addition to conducting critical studio visits with our fellows, Mikalson and Mrozowski will be presenting their work at an artist talk which is open to the public. The talk will take place at Lighthouse Works which is located just west of Silver Eel Cove, where our ferry makes port, and north of the intersection of Hound Lane and Greenwood Road.

*Ander Mikalson received an MFA from Virginia Commonwealth University, a BA from the College of Creative Studies at the University of California Santa Barbara, and attended the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture. Her performances have been shown at The Kitchen (New York, NY), The High Line (New York, NY), Storm King Art Center (New Windsor, NY), The Art, Design & Architecture Museum (Santa Barbara, CA), Kate Werble Gallery (New York, NY), Queens Museum (Queens, NY), Temple Contemporary (Philadelphia, PA), Institute of Contemporary Art (Portland, ME), and Tensta Konsthall (Stockholm, Sweden). Her projects have been supported by the Foundation for Contemporary Arts Emergency Grant (2016), the Art Matters Foundation Grant (2013), College Art Association Professional-Development Fellowship in the Visual Arts (2012), and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts Graduate Fellowship (2011). She has been an artist-in-residence at the Queens Museum (2015-present), Robert Rauschenberg Foundation (2017), Lower Manhattan Cultural Council (2016), and Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity (2018). In 2018 she will be a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellow in Washington, DC. She lives and works in New York City.

Ryan Mrozowski was born in Indiana, PA, in 1981 and currently lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. He received his MFA from the Pratt Institute in 2005, and his BFA from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2003. Mrozowski has held solo exhibitions at Galerie Nordenhake, Berlin (2018); Hannah Hoffman, Los Angeles (2017); Arcade Gallery, London (2016); On Stellar Rays, New York (2015); Art in General, Vilnius (2014); Pierogi, Brooklyn (2012, 2010) and the Daniel Weinberg Gallery, Los Angeles (2008). His works have been included in group exhibitions at Jack Hanley Gallery, New York (2018); Pratt Institute, New York (2017); Galerie Nordenhake, Stockholm (2016); Salon 94, New York, and Marianne Boesky, New York (both 2015); Chapter, New York (2014), and The Kitchen, New York (2011). Mrozowski has been written about in The Brooklyn Rail, Artforum, Hyperallergic, The New Yorker, Los Angeles Times, Modern Painters, BOMB Magazine, Juliet Magazine, New York Observer, and others.
