Lighthouse Works is pleased to welcome Melissa Brown to Fishers Island as part of our Visiting Artist program. In addition to spending time with our (61) Fellows, Melissa will present and discuss her work at an Artist Talk on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at 10 am. All are welcome!

Bio
Melissa Brown was born in Morristown, NJ, and now lives and works in Brooklyn, NY. Her recent solo exhibitions and projects have included: Melissa Brown, Between States at Derek Eller in New York; Tennis Elbow, the Journal Gallery, Brooklyn; Past Present Future at Magenta Planes, New York; Future Past, as part of PrintAustin, 2016; and Paper Fortune at CANADA, New York. Internationally, she has mounted solo exhibitions at Kenny Schachter / ROVE in London and Roberto Paradise in Puerto Rico. Her paintings, prints, and animations are included in Providence at the Museé International des Arts Modestas, France. Her work has been shown at Mass MOCA, Gavin Brown’s Enterprise, P.P.O.W., Socrates Sculpture Park, High Desert Test Sites, Art in General, Sue Scott Gallery, and Bronx River Art Center, among others. She participated in Performa 07 and staged How to Win the Lottery at the Nuit Blanche in Toronto 2009. She was awarded the Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters & Sculptors Grant in 2012. In May 2015, NADA NY presented Brown’s project Eye in the Sky Hold ‘Em as a special program, which allowed art fair goers to spy on a private poker game played by artists for an art collection. Her work is in the permanent collections at the Whitney Museum of Art and the New York City Department of Education.
