Lighthouse Works is thrilled to present Hahn & Hertz, the Annex Gallery's first alumni show featuring new works by painter Heidi Hahn, a Spring 2015 alumnus, and sculptor Dmitri Hertz, a Fall 2014 alumnus. Hahn's figurative and playful paintings script out a strange endless narrative alongside Hertz's absurd and seductive sculptures. Both artists create and explore their own self-built worlds in which they freely play and tinker.

Hahn's characters reflect and walk through her compositions creating a palpable solitude and imbuing the work with a psychological charge. Through her use of the decorative and this lone female character, Hahn is challenging the history of painting and the depiction of the female body.

Hertz's Pollen Series is perched throughout the gallery making the seemingly mundane and hidden forms of pollen irresistible and tangible. These ungainly sculptures probe the organic for answers to questions of form and materiality.

Hahn & Hertz is the first of three alumni shows slated for 2017. These shows are part of our Legacy Program, an opportunity for our community to reconnect with our past fellows and their work.
